Read are committed to the advancement of staff, both in the Head Office and on site, through training and mentorship. To reinforce this desire for continual personal improvement Read applied for, and successfully achieved, Investors in People status in June 2004. Three years later we were reassessed and successfully retained our IIP status. IIP is a nationally recognised award which provides a proven framework for delivering business improvement through the improved performance of employees. Read’s are proud to have been awarded IIP status which emphasises our commitment to all our employees who in turn have shown their willingness to learn new tasks, techniques and technologies. IIP has also helped Read to embrace change where required and to maintain our staff turnover at a very low level.
We operate a continuous programme of employee training and development in conjunction with ConstructionSkills. All of our staff are continually monitored and each receives a formal annual appraisal. This appraisal is a two way discussion where the staff member can discuss with their line manager areas where either consider further training is required. A programme of further training is agreed which is integrated into our Workforce Development Programme. At Read we consider it vitally important that each staff member is fully trained in their job role but that they also receive a wider education in how our company is run as a whole. Training is provided in many forms from bespoke training courses provided by external suppliers through to one on one mentoring by colleagues.
