Free Training from Read Construction
October 12, 2008Read Construction Partners With Charity Trust To Offer Free Training For Safer Sites.
One of North Wales’ premier Construction companies, Read Construction, is offering an opportunity for local firms and individuals to gain valuable skills through a partnership with the Brymbo and Tanyfron Regeneration Trust (BTRT). The courses, aimed at anyone connected with construction, from painters and decorators to unemployed individuals looking to work in the industry, are being provided by Read Construction whose portfolio spans major public sector and private clients across Wales and the North West, in conjunction with BTRT the Charity succeeding in regenerating the Brymbo community. With subjects as diverse as scaffold erecting, working at height, risk assessments and manual handling, Read has a comprehensive in-house training programme to support the 80 staff.
“At Read we continuously invest in training our people because of the benefits to our organisation of having a highly skilled workforce, and because of the benefits to individuals and their safety.” Explained Pam Manley, H & S Administrator for Read. “Following discussions with BTRT we recognised that by offering free places on our courses we could give opportunity to smaller businesses and individuals who might not otherwise be able to afford this training.”
Most of the courses offered by Read are certificated by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme and those taking the test should be able to pass a CSCS touch screen test giving them a CSCS card. The card will make individuals and companies more attractive to employers and clients and can be a requirement to work on some sites. The courses, which run during September, will be held at The Brymbo Enterprise Centre, site of Read’s head office.
BTRT management, together with Read’s Health and Safety Administrator, realised that widening the reach of the courses could be of great benefit to both Read and the local business community at large. “The Trust's objectives include training and up-skilling” said Mike Shone, BTRT representative “but why reinvent the wheel? Having Read with their knowledge and experience of the construction industry on site, presented a partnership opportunity to deliver real benefits to sectors of the community. We urge local people and businesses to book the available places”. Courses will include basic site operative health and safety awareness and a system scaffolding course. In today’s construction industry this kind of training is vital and I’m delighted that Read are able to make it more accessible for local firms.” Said Pam Manley.
