Engineering block completed on time, on budget to a high standard
Read Construction were employed by the College to construct a new engineering block, in April 2010, following a competitive tender. The project budget, including all fees and fittings, was approximately £545,000, and involved dismantling an existing metal sheet profile barn, and some site clearance, prior to construction of the new build commencing.
Despite several unforeseen problems on site, the building was completed in September, on time and on budget, to a high standard. Throughout, Read displayed a commendable attitude and professionalism towards the project, and worked in tandem with the College to ensure that its day-to-day activities were not impinged upon, or obstructed, and were always mindful of the strict restraints of the project, in terms of timescale and budget.
The completed building is a striking piece of architecture, of which the College is justly proud, containing several classrooms, a workshop, office and toilet facilities, and sits well with several of the other newer buildings on site in terms of quality of finish and aesthetics. The College has worked with Read Construction previously, at its Oswestry campus, and despite different staff being involved, the behaviour and attitude of the company, as a whole, has been consistent in terms of motivation and understanding of the client's needs and constraints. We look forward to working with them on other projects in the future.
