Hard working, honest and skilful outfit with a good sense of humour.

I am the Chairman and Chief Executive of GBB Estates Ltd, a property company based in Chester. In March 2010 we purchased 3 small shops with large back gardens in a row of 10. Planning permission was granted for a demolition and rebuild for a 4000sq ft Tesco Express. Read and two other contractors were asked to quote for the rebuilding works, which involved levelling the site, steel work, all concrete works, services, exterior car parking and first floor offices. The store needed to be handed over to Tesco by 15th November so that they could fit the store out and be open for Christmas.
Read were the most competitive and had the shortest contract period.

Work commenced in late July. Not a day’s work was lost to foul weather, even though there was a lot of it about last summer. The onsite project manager was a delight. Not only did he keep the neighbours happy, and on side, but he ran a safe and efficient site. The works, as is generally the case, did not always go exactly according to plan and various changes had to be made. All these Read took in their stride and managed to finish the contract 2 weeks ahead of schedule and slightly under budget. Tesco’s new buildings manager told me he was very impressed with the level of workmanship and wished all his new stores were built to the same high standard as this one.

Our lease with Tesco’s was able to commence 2 weeks ahead of schedule. I would not hesitate to recommend Read Construction to any potential developer. You will find them to be a hard working, honest and skilful outfit with a good sense of humour.
