Chester Catholic High School Opens £4m Read Built Development
The Catholic High School Chester today officially unveiled its new innovative and inspiring Emmaus Building. The project provides new teaching and learning spaces designed specifically for music and drama departments and houses the entire sixth form together with a new visitor reception and two new laboratories. Although building work is now complete the school is one year through a five year plan to fulfil the obligation to contribute 10% of the project cost and fund raising continues.
John Murray, Head Teacher said "The new Emmaus Building is fantastic and provides a first class learning environment for pupils now and in the future that should help ensure that all pupils reach their full potential."
The environment and sustainability were key factors in the design and building of the new facilities which were built by Wrexham based Read Construction Holdings Ltd.
Catholic High School Strategic Business Manager Stephen Gauller said "We are committed to creating inspiring and stimulating environments for children to learn in. This means taking all aspects of new school buildings into account at the design stage. As part of the design process a sustainable checklist was drawn up to ensure that all materials used in the school came only from approved sources, requiring suppliers to provide suitable environmental credentials. Other energy saving features include solar panels and a rainwater collection system that recycles rainwater to the school's toilet cisterns, reducing the water loads required by the school.”
For Read Construction the successful completion of the project adds to their portfolio of major education projects in both the private and public sector where the company has a strong track record. Richard Heaton, Managing Director of Read Construction Holdings Ltd said “We appreciate the challenges of completing a building project whilst allowing a school to continue operating with the least impact on the education of its pupils and the effectiveness of its staff. I’m delighted that The Catholic High School now has the type of facilities that its pupils clearly deserve and we’re proud to have been able to deliver them on time and on budget for the school.”
Peter Bulmer, Chairman of The Catholic High School said "The new facilities are a huge hit with pupils and staff alike. It has totally transformed the learning experience for our children. Their daily enthusiasm for their new environments is wonderful to see and will - over time - make a real difference to pupils' achievements."
