Read Construction have always held the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and the public as our top priority. For that reason, Read Construction made the difficult decision to close our sites as of yesterday (24th March 2020).
The decision has been made despite the Government advice for construction to remain open, as we do not believe that the control measures that have been proposed can be effectively implemented. The diverse supply chains involved in all construction projects necessitate a wide variety of suppliers that typically draw resources from a radius of over 60 miles. Following the Government’s advice to minimise all non-essential works, travel and social contact, we cannot morally allow works to continue at this time.
Richard Heaton, Managing Director commented: “We are a socially responsible company and put the safety of our employees, supply chain and clients at the forefront of our operations. The decision to close all sites was not an easy one to make, but we believe it is the moral thing to do and will fully support the government and most importantly the NHS during these uncertain times. Read are a small family business and we will continue to support all employees through this difficult time.”
Read are thankful for the support and understanding of our clients and supply chain, who are supporting our decision to close sites – working together to stay at home and protect the NHS.
We are continuing to support the NHS and our local communities by working with our local health board, Betsi Cadwaladr, to continue delivering critical and essential construction projects within their facilities.
All office staff will continue to operate through agile working during this period – with Read remaining available for all clients, consultants and supply chain.
