Read collect Special Constructing Excellence Award

On Friday the 4th of July, 500 people from Wales’ leading construction companies gathered at the “Constructing Excellence Wales” annual awards at City Hall, Cardiff. The evening was an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate projects that have delivered best practice, proving that collaborative working is the best way to meet Government targets whilst delivering first class infrastructure for Wales.

Read Construction, from Brymbo, were delighted to receive the “Special Recognition Award” for innovation, as well as an “Exemplar” certificate for their new primary school project at Ysgol Taliesin, Shotton. These awards recognise the efforts of the team to deliver innovative solutions and share knowledge as an example for others to learn from.

The CEW panel acknowledged “The tremendous commitment to collaborative working and the innovative use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the passion shown by the team. It is a brave step by an SME embracing the principles of new ways of working. Read are clearly passionate towards building integration and sharing of work process changes and this openness to sharing information and experiences is a breath of fresh air that should be recognised”.

Alex Read, Business Improvement Manager, added “We’re absolutely delighted to have received recognition for our continued efforts in integrated work practices and collaboration, from the highest calibre awards body in the Welsh built environment. The team at Shotton, including Flintshire County Council and Lovelock Mitchell architects, have embraced the latest advances in collaboration and design technology, which we look forward to embracing on future projects.”

These awards are demonstration of the whole team commitment to delivery of best practice, which has been separately recognised in the recent appointment of Read to the North Wales 21st Century Schools and Public Buildings Framework, through which Read look forward to continued collaborative working arrangements with the North Wales local authorities and supply chain.
