Extensive scheme of sympathetic improvements and rennovations to The Mere, Ellesmere public realm and associated buildings including the historic Boathouse Restaurant to promote an enhanced visitor experience.
MULTIPLE SITES - Encompassing a scheme of improvments across The Mere heritage site, this project included repair and refurbishment of the Boathouse Restaurant, restoration of a sales kiosk, Mere cottage and boathouse together with demolition of an existing toilet block and extensive landscaping, paving and planting along the banks and approaches to the Mere. With significant public and local interest, the sensitive site management and effective ongoing liaison and consultation ensured a successful completion of the project.
CONSERVATION - Located within the Mere nature area and with strict planning conditions for the sympathetic refurbishment with like for like materials, the sourcing of local material and craftspeople was key to the success of the project. Working closely with nature and conservation groups, the adverse impact from the development was negated through a mix of modern technology and traditional materials and methods.
