Ysgol Gynradd Cae’r Nant

New build construction of a BREEAM Excellent 320 pupil entry primary school through a Partnered contract. The residential location necessitated considerate working practices and careful logistic planning.

Contract:   PPC 2000 Partnering Contract
Value:          £6,100,000
Duration:   104 Weeks

INNOVATIVE PROCUREMENT - The key supply chain partners were appointed to the partnering team following an innovative appraisal process that reflected Read's own appointment through a Quality / Cost tender process. By vetting and assessing responses in a client & contractor workshop, best value was upheld as the primary consideration.

LEAN CONSTRUCTION - Read developed a new Quality Assurance process through the project, completing, signing off and locking down an area of the project early in the programme. This was then used during induction to coach tradespeople in the expected finish standard throughout the remaining build. The resulting built-in-quality culminated in the LABC regional award for best education project.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES - The project was one of Read and Flintshire County Council's first schemes where community benefit engagement activities were recorded and reported. The outcomes included 11 school engagement activities, over 75% value delivered locally, 12 apprentices supported and a total of over 300 weeks of recruitment and training, all delivered with no core (contractual) requirement.
