Ysgol Ty Ffynnonl, Chair of Governors - Matthew Nicholas

On behalf of the staff, children and Governing Body of Ysgol Ty Ffynnon I write to express our delight to have been given the opportunity to be part of the beautiful new school that was handed over to us earlier this term. We all feel very privileged to take ownership of such an amazing facility, undoubtedly this school will have a very positive impact on all of us and indeed on the wider community of Shotton. We would like to also offer our thanks to Reads Construction for their hard work, but also for their consideration which enabled the whole process to run smoothly with minimum disruption to the day to day working life of the school. From the onset Reads were a company that worked in true partnership with the existing schools. the children were involved and interested and the team took many opportunities to engage the children and answer their questions in order to ensure that they felt part of the amalgamation process.

I believe that the leadership provided by the Site Manager Mr. Matthew Nicholas promoted this ethos of partnership. the team that he managed were, without exception, helpful and courteous at all times. Wherever it was possible they took the views and opinions of the staff, governors and children into account and worked to accommodate them. Whenever staff, governors and children visited the site they were made to feel welcome and Mr. Nicholas ensured that visits were always organised and productive, despite the many pressures that he and his team faced. As the build neared completion there were many additional visits needed and many meetings to make important decisions. Mr. Nicholas was meticulous in ensuring that any concerns or questions were answered and resolved quickly. He kept Mrs. Hughes informed at all times and liaised with the many different agencies involved in the build. Any issues were quickly resolved and we felt that we were fully informed and involved at all times. In addition to this, Mr. Nicholas fully understood the importance of engaging the wider community and our parents. He attended Open Evenings in school to discuss developments with parents and the community and many comments were made by the public about his willingness to meet with them and to answer their questions and concerns.

During the actual move Mr. Nicholas and his team could not have been more helpful. All staff commented on how supportive and considerate the men were and how they helped staff through a very stressful time. Even after the school had Opened they were on hand to solve any unexpected issues, always with a smile! I cannot praise the company highly enough. Now that the move is complete we can fully appreciate the building and all that it offers to our children. Once again I would like to thank all involved for their contribution and for their considerate awareness of the needs of a working school. Please pass on my thanks to Mr. Nicholas and his team who made all of this possible. Finally, thank you also for allowing this project to go ahead. We are all only too aware of the huge financial pressures that currently exist and so are very grateful that funding was allocated to support our new school. We are sure that as a school we will make the very most of the opportunities that you have enabled us all to enjoy.

Mr. John Donnelly Chair of Governors
